Evaluation
MultiMedia: Evaluation
K1219829 - Lobna Hassanein
After producing my own multimedia website, it is time to start evaluating the final product for this semester. The aim of this module is to use different and many media texts as possible on a website that we have to create individually. After researching the design, page layout, typography and media texts to use for my website, it has helped a lot as I have achieved the website I have been planning to produce. I am glad to say that I have completed at least eight different pages on my website that consists of most media texts such as audio, image, video and text.
The audio that has been used on my website were mainly on my videos that I have uploaded onto YouTube and embedded the video, pasted it onto a video player plugin and positioned it where I wanted it to be. The audio was either music that consists of vocals or just instrumental piece. The video that has been used on One on One Beauty were just tutorials on make-up. As make-up requires step by step tutorial, so I figured out that I should record, edit in Premier Pro and then upload it onto YouTube. Images have been either my own material (taking the image by camera) or taken from Google Images to demonstrate something. Lastly, text which is the type of text I have used on the website such as how I positioned it, if it is paragraphed or a big chunk and how to make it attractive and representable.
After a few months of creating this website via WordPress was quite challenging at first as I have never created a website before. WordPress started becoming simple after a few weeks as I have been discovering new tools. However, the hardest and trickiest part of making this website was the plugins. Finding plugins wasn't the hardest, it was quite easy when it comes to finding what you need and installing it. Although it starts out easy, it is how you place that plugin onto your website that became a big struggle for me. For example, until now I am struggling to get my social media buttons (such as Facebook and Twitter) to actually appear on my website in the corner. It either goes on the side, but it doesn't look appealing or it would just disappear. Another hard part of making the website was the menu as WordPress didn't make it clear for me. It took me quite a long time to figure out how to create sub-menu or different categories that should appear on the menu. After looking for a long time, I found out a way to do it which become really easy after discovering it.
If I had more time I would definitely improve my website. Some pages are at the moment under construction as I haven't finished the products and media texts I need to put onto the page. However, this will be improved in the near future if my website does become the groups website in TB2. As mentioned above, the social media button plugin gave me real problems. When it comes to TB2 I will find a way to install the social network plugin that will both work and look attractive. This will also help me and the group in TB2 which will help us market our brand and product. The last thing I want to improve is the brand's logo. The logo at the moment is at the bottom of the page that has a 'power' button. It is pretty standard, however it has nothing to do with beauty. I had a vision of my brand's logo which was a butterfly as butterflies are seen as something beautiful and delicate.

Post-Production: Text
Post-Production:Text
I am going to explain the type of text I am producing on my site three ways:
- Is the text formal or informal?
My texts will be informal, because my target audience are working class females. The reason why I also talk informal is because I want the users to feel like we are having a one on one friendly conversation, I want them to feel like I am one of them and I am talking to them as a friend. There is no need for formal conversations, I am not aiming to be their teacher or parent. I am just a friend with inspiring tips, advice and secrets to tell another friend.
Example of the text I have used in 'hair' -
'“If I want to knock a story off the front page, I just change my hairstyle.”
- Hilary Rodham Clinton
From girl next door to walking on the red carpet. I’ll be posting hair style tutorials, hottest hair colours and how to make your hair look and feel healthier to make life a little more easier for you! It doesn’t matter if your hair may be shorter or longer than others. Whether your hair is dull and brittle, I will save the day with many reviews on different hair products. Going to prom and need a quick fancy hair-do? Or you fancy a change and scouting for different hair colours to stand out in 2014. Well my aim is to help you and other girls who are crying out for help!'
- What is the font and colour? Is it bold or italic?
The colour of the font is just an automatic black colour. I do not want to clash colours, so I just chose a black font. The name of the font that I am using is 'Times New Roman' for introductions and 'Helvetica' for the main body. The bold font is being used when I am quoting something, just like above which is a quote from Hilary Clinton about hair. The italics are used when I am referencing the person who said the quote.
-Where is the text placed?
Titles are always in the centre of the page such as the title of the website 'One on One Beauty'.
This is what the title looks like on the homepage. Under it the tagline is placed under the title. The size of the tagline is smaller than the title of the website. Other texts are placed in the pages on 'makeup', 'body' and other pages are on the left.

Post-Production: Material
Post-Production:Material
I have been recording my makeup tutorials, uploaded them on YouTube and will be embedding them onto my website as soon as I get the text done I'll be uploading both images and videos.
This is an image that consists of three different poses I have taken after my leopard eye tutorial that I have recorded. I have cut the background of the original three images of me on Adobe Photoshop. Then I searched a leopard background on Google Images, placed it onto Photoshop and used the three images of me appear on top of the leopard background. This will be uploaded under the sub-menu 'eyes'. The parent of 'eyes' is 'makeup' that will be found on the menu on the homepage of the website.
This is the tutorial of the leopard eye look. I have even put an audio onto this video which is 'Gypsy' by Shakira. I was avoiding any audio that has to do with wild cats as it is too cliche, so I picked a song that would go with motion of the video and style. There is no dialogue in this video. I have edited the motion of the video, it is a fast motion video so it isn't a long video and the audience don't become bored and uninterested. I have made the speed up by 70% and the video is up to four minutes long. The software I have used to edit the video is Adobe Premier Pro on my laptop.
My other material I have put onto makeup is occasions. The occasion section of makeup is a page full of tutorials, text and advice on makeup that would be worn on different occasions through the year. For example, I have started on a dress up occasion which is Halloween. I have chosen the 'cat look' as it is a popular dress up character on Halloween or any other dress up party as it is sassy, sexy, fun and easy to get a hold of. It is also cheap to do, I want to help the users to look like this without spending too much money and is in their budget.
This is the image of the final look to the 'cat look'. This has been edited in Adobe Photoshop, and the pictures have been taken by an Nikon digital camera. I have cut out the background of the original three images of me, placed it on a spooky dark background that I have found Google Images. I have also edited the colours, brightness, sharpness and exposure. I have gone for the dark look, bats flying around and spooky house to go with the Halloween theme. I have made it friendly too as some of my audience will be young teenagers from the age of 13. I have also written up the title on the image 'Halloween Make-Up' on the bottom of the image to identify the audience with the occasion I am doing. The video is still in progress, I have been using Adobe Premier Pro as well, and the song I went for is 'Walk Like an Egyptian' by The Bangles. I was going to use the song 'Cool Cat' by Queen, however Queen are an 80s rock band and I was afraid that the audience wouldn't relate to the song and they might be put off by the video and not carry on watching because of the choice of the song on the tutorial video.
This is a video of the song, so it will give you an idea what the song sounds like and what the final product will be all about.
The third tutorial video is under the sub-menu 'Looks'. I went with an Hawaiian makeup look as I was going to a party that night, Hawaiian themed of course. I thought I would do a quick tutorial video of this look for the users.
This image is the final product. This has been edited in Adobe Photoshop, the background is a Hawaiian background that has been found on Google Images. The tutorial as at the bottom that has been edited in Adobe Premier Pro. The speed of the video has also been edited to make it speed up. The song that I have used is 'Come and Get It' by Selena Gomez.
Other images that have been used for 'Hair' have been added onto the Meta Slider plugin that has a little slide show. These images were taken from Google Images. I have been using mixed materials that are mine or other people's images.

Post-Production: Plugins
Post-Production:Plugins
Plugins are there to make the website more attractive and interactive. I have found some plugins that I have installed:
There are many social network plugins that I have downloaded as they can have a different design to the Facebook 'like' or 'share' button. Or like the Twitter tweet feed. The plugin that I'll be using the most will be Meta Slider which is a plugin to insert images and it starts flicking through images like a slide show. It becomes interactive too. By inserting the URL in the URL section of the image on the Meta Slider it becomes interactive as the user can click onto the image and navigates the user to that specific page.
As I click on the image that says 'maintaining healthy hair' will direct me to a page that explains how to maintain healthy hair. It directs to me a different page that is a page full of advice and step by step tutorials for maintaining healthy hair.
At the moment this is a 404 error, as I haven't created the page yet. In the near future, I'll be putting some text and visual texts onto this page.
The other plugin I'll be using as much as possible is Page Builder by SiteOrgin which will help me build up my page by inserting videos, images, texts, meta slider, embedded media, calendar, price box and many more. It also gives me access to building up the layout and adding a pre-built layout page.
This is what my page builder looks like. I am trying to build up an image, text and an embedded video from my own product that I have uploaded on YouTube. I have put up my image that is the big medium that I want audience to focus on. The text on the bottom left, and right next to it is a video of my tutorial video on eye makeup.

Post-Production: Pages
Post-Production:Pages
I have created pages for my website. These pages that have been created are to be used for my menu, sub-menu as my different beauty categories.
These are the pages I have created. As you can see, there is a page called 'Eyes' that will consist of makeup for eyes. This will include text, visuals (image and video) and audio. The parent of 'Eyes' is makeup. The meaning of 'parent' is where this page belongs to, this page will be under makeup so when the audience go onto the menu on the homepage it will break down a sub-menu and the audience will be able to access 'Eyes'.

I have the access to manage my available widgets. I can place my own images in the widgets and rename it. For instance, I will place an image of body and rename it 'body'. Hopefully I'll find out how to navigate it to a URL that will navigate the user to a page that is related to body.
This is how I edit my widgets and manage it. Looking at 'Home Page Top Area' is the section to manage the widgets on the homepage. Under it, it says '(Ward) Image and Text: Hair'. Under title I have typed in the word 'Hair' this will be shown under the image on the widget. Under it, it says 'Image URL' where I paste the URL that I have copied. That URL will make an image that I have chosen to appear on the homepage. Under the URL is a URL of the page I want the audience to go to, this is a navigation where it will navigate the audience to the 'hair' page.

Post-Production: Customise
Post-Production:Customise
Its my first time to use WordPress for the first time. In this stage I have chosen my theme already called 'Ward'. I have been taking a little tour on this website, here is what I have learned from the tour:
This is what my homepage on WordPress looks like. This is the dashboard where it helps me customise my website. It gives me the options to add an 'about' page which helps me, this will be my first step and first page to create. It gives me other options like viewing my website without typing in my URL. I can manage the widgets, turn the comments on or off from users and learn about the website even more.
This is where I can customise my website. I can enter the site's title which I have (OneonOneBeauty) and a tagline that comes underneath the title (Look Beautiful.Feel Beautiful). The layout can edited as well, by changing the colour of the background. Fonts can be changed too, so I am not forced to stick with a font I do not like.

Planning: Prezi Presentation
Planning:PreziPresentation
This is a presentation I have created on www.prezi.com which is a really creative and interactive way to present ideas. Prezi is an ideal presentation slide to use as this module is about interactive media, this goes well with the theme. I have to present this at some time in the seminar to other students to get some feedback:

Planning: Products
Planning:Products
I need to figure out the products I need to purchase for this website. I need things that are under the categories of body, hair, makeup and products and reviews.
- Body: Most products for body are already being used by me and the rest of the household. This shouldn't be a problem. However, I need to look for other products I haven't used before. Such as cheap products vs expensive products. I also need to look for ingredients for natural products such as making scrub lotions for the body with products that are in the kitchen. Body bombs for example, I have never used but I have been exploring 'Lush' that is found in London. They sell many many natural products that are also not tested on animals which is one point for me from all the animal lovers. Face products will be used aswell, such as face wash that I use to prevent oily skin and spots. I'll be exploring other products too, like Clearasil, Garnier, Lo'real, Clean and Clear and other products.
- Hair: I have recently been indulged in salon hair products such as Bed Hair, hair masks from the salon and heat spray. I'll be using my products to demonstrate how this works, why it works and how much. I'll also be looking at hair straightening products that are being used in the salons around the world, which one is the most successful one and which one is really damaging. I am also a hair dye fanatic! I have gone through all the colours in the rainbow, so I'll be giving my advice for hair dye, how damaging it can be and how to avoid the colours being washed out. From permanent hair dye to hair colour sprays/powder and hena. I'll also show how to curl hair with curling irons and the natural way with sleep in hair rollers.
- Makeup: This is the part I am excited to do. I don't have much makeup, however I have mastered the techniques by watching YouTube videos and have a one on one session with a makeup artist. I'll be purchasing some makeup from MAC, Revlon, Lo'real and other makeup brands. I'll be using reasonable priced products and compare it to major brands like Bobby Brown.
- Products and Reviews: The products that will be used in those categories will also be reviewed and I'll be writing reviews on that product more in depth. Even though they will be mentioned in hair and makeup, it will be better to review it in depth as I won't be reviewing them and giving my opinions on these categories. Perfume is one of the products I'll be reviewing. I am a person who buys fragrances every other week, this will be good to review because it depends on the person's mood. For example, if I feel classic I'll be putting 'Yves Saint Laurent' the 'Elle' edition as it has a classical feel to it.

I'll be listing the different types of software that I will be using to product my website:
- Adobe Photoshop: This will be used to place an image of my final makeup look and will be edited in a background. For example, I am going to do leopard eyes tutorial and I'll be taking pictures of my eyes and place it on a leopard pattern print wallpaper to relate with the theme I am going for. I can also use Photoshop to duplicate images, edit basic things like brightness and sharpness.
- Adobe Premier Pro: This is my number one software to use to edit raw footage. I will be placing raw footage of me walking in the streets of Central London experiencing different beauty products and speaking to the public about beauty. This will be used to cut up the footage, add blurry effects to it in specific parts and apply fast motion to some areas.
- Adobe Effects: I would like to try Adobe Effects to create effects on my footage. This will make it unique and have a professional effect to it. This is just to keep things interesting, however it isn't mandatory.
- Paint: A very simple software to use. This will just be used to test colours and paste print screened images to save them as a JPEG file to upload on Blogger. For example, I will print screen my progress and paste it onto Paint and save it as a JPEG as it will be a suitable file to upload it onto Blogger to explain what I have been doing and what I need to do.

Planning: Equipment
Planning:Equipment
There are so many different equipments that can help me produce and finalise my website. I will be writing up the different types of equipments I need to use.
- Samsung Notebook: I have taken out a Samsung Notebook from the University to use. I have my own laptop to write up my essays, plan, research and make presentations. However, the Samsung Notebook from University has all the software I need. The software I need is Adobe. Adobe has Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Premier Pro and Flash. This is what I need to complete a successful, attractive website. The notebook also has a web cam that I'll be using to record my makeup tutorials.
- Nikon Coolpix L320: I have a digital camera at home that I use personally. This will be used to take pictures for my makeup tutorials that I will be editing in Photoshop and put a background to make it more appealing.
- Apple iPhone: This will be used to take quick pictures, record quick videos and use the slow-mo function on the smartphone. This will be used in some of my shots when I am out in the streets recording.
- Recording Studio: I'll be popping in and out of the recording studio that I can access at the University. This studio will be used to record voice overs, edit it on the notebook and place it on my tutorial videos.
- 1TB Hard Drive: This will be used to store all of my files and folders as my backup so I do not lose or delete files accidentally. This will be taken with me from home to University to store new things.
- Camera & Tripod: I will be needing a camera to record when I am outside, and a tripod so it can be a still shot to avoid hand shots that can shake and blur the vision.

Planning: Colours
Planning:Colours
The colours I have planned for this website are:
PINK: Colour of the background on my web page. It is a soft pink, not too bright and pleasurable to look at. It is quite relaxing to look at, it also goes with the beauty theme. The colour makes me think about beauty products and makeup, because the stereotypical colour for a girl is pink. Of course my website is aimed at teenage and young adult females.
BLACK: The colour of the text. The default colour of text that is used on websites, softwares such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint and even on guide manual booklets are used in a black coloured font. It is normal, the default colour and the audience are familiar to the colour.
WHITE: The background on other websites are just plain white. Simple, it doesn't have any conflicts with the text colour which can make the audience focus on text rather the colour and blurs their vision.

Planning: Home Page
Planning:HomePage
I have researched the designs of home pages on different websites. I even found the theme that I want to use for my website. This is a quick sketch of the home page:
In the corner there is the logo and the name of the website 'One on One Beauty'. It also has the tagline under it 'Look Beautiful. Feel Beautiful'. The menu is on the top, this consists of 'home', 'about', 'body', 'hair', 'makeup' and 'product and reviews'. There are sub-menus I have wrote down under the parent. For example, under 'body' there is 'skin care', 'fragrance', 'body products' and 'grooming'. By clicking on the sub-menus, they will allow the audience to access the URL that leads up to 'fragrance' page where it will have all sort of body fragrance products, tips and advice.
At the bottom there are four widgets. They will be replaced with four different pictures that is related to 'hair', 'body', 'makeup' and 'products and reviews'. This will be replaced with either my own images that I have taken, or use images are available on Google Images.
Planning: Audio
Planning:Audio
In this post I am going to plan the sort of music I want to use on my website. Originally, I was thinking about putting a music player in the background on my website. However, it could be tedious and annoying the audience. This will be changed as I would want to avoid disappointed audience that surf my website.
As it is a multimedia module, I would like to use music somehow. One of my sub-menus will have make-up featuring on it, this way I can record tutorial videos or a campaign about make-up and use any desired song/instrumental music. My target audience are young teenagers to young adults. I must choose the kind of songs carefully, avoid abusive words as it will be unsuitable for young adults that are under 18 years old. I can't go wrong with instrumental music (no vocals) as I wouldn't have to worry about abusive words that are being used. As I want my website to become mainstream, I'll be luring in the audience by featuring mainstream, popular songs and artists on my tutorials.
Another way of using music would be on a slider that I'll be looking to download as a Plugin on WordPress. For example, adding images on the slider with some music would keep the audience entertained and they'll become more interested in the products or tips/advice I am giving out to the public.
Finally, other sounds such as dialogue or sound effects could work also. For example, by recording a video of me straightening my hair and something goes wrong, I could always put some sound effects such as 'something went wrong' sound effect. This will become comedic for the audience, entertaining and something that could be found as something unique.
Here are some videos that have inspired me to use on my website:
This is a song released by Lana Del Rey in her 'Born To Die' album. This is the remixed version that has been aired on music television. I have picked the 'karaoke' or 'instrumental' version, as it sounds better without the vocals. This could be used in one of the categories 'Products and Reviews' as I record things such as products, walking in the stores and exploring products. The reason why this would be a good song to pick for the video is because I had an idea to make the video fast motion as I walk in the streets. This instrumental compliments that fast motion speed, the instrumental is quite fast and loud which compliments the speed of the video.
This song has this 'Indian' music/instrumental to this popular song released by Selena Gomez called 'Come & Get It'. This time I want to have many selections of audio to use on my website. This could be used in a makeup tutorial that could be inspired by this single. For example, use this song that has an 'Indian' inspired makeup. Or used in a bright makeup tutorial.
Hair will be featured on my website. One of the main focuses on hair is how to look after hair. This kind of music is Arabian music with a little twist to it. It has been mixed with house music. Using this type instrumental it can relate to many people around the world. This has different cultures to it, an Arabian culture and clubbing culture in the Western world. This has inspired me to use it in one of my hair tutorials (using Argan Oil). The reason why this fits in with the video is because Argan oil are produced from the Argan tree in Morocco. This fits in with the Moroccan themed video.

Planning: Medium Texts
Planning:MediumTexts
I want to use many medium texts as possible as the module is a multi-media topic. I also want to think outside of thr box and make it unique. For example, I prefer to use a mix of my own material and secondary materials. For instance, I will be sharing photos from a website and put it on my website. However I want to mix it up with my own material, so ill be posting and embed YouTube videos on my website.
What I was thinking to do was to share images of celebrities and their hair styldd znd try to imitate the hair style (step by step) to help readers acheive that look. For the make-up I will be creating my own technique and ideas so ill be embedding videos of tutotials.
I'll be using audio aswell. Either insert an audio on my tutorial videos or edit the CCS and install a plugin to allow an audio player at the bottem and the audiencd can pick and choose what to listen to. However it ciukd clash with the videos and issues with copy right material.

Planning: Plugins
Planning:Plugins
Plugins makes the website a whole lot better. There are many plugins on Wordpress that I can install on my own website to make it a lot interesting. Plugins that I am interested in are things that can make my website interactive. I also need a plugin that will help the audience reach out to me, so I need a socialising plugin such as a Facebook button or Google+ button. I have also mentioned slide shows, and I get pretty excited when I see a slide show on a website. It keeps things interesting and really interactive.
- Slide show: I would like to install a slide show plugin to insert photos that has something to do with beauty such as make-up, products, body and so on. 'Meta Slider Lite' is a plugin I have been reading about. It seems complicated, but I am determined to have a slide show on my website.
- Social Network: 'BWS' plugin allows me to hook up my Facebook page that I already created for my website called 'OneonOneBeauty'. Hopefully that will create a Facebook button, that will indicate the audience to my Facebook page. That will help me gain followers and I can post a status or post images of my recent accomplishments on the fan page. It will help me get my information across the audience quicker and in a fun way.
- Appearance: By reading the overview of 'SiteOrgin: Page Builder' makes me feel confident that I will achieve that appearance I am going for. It basically helps build your page by inserting embedded videos, images, texts, slide shows and so on. It makes life a little bit easier, and that is a plugin I will definitely be using.
- Formatting: 'Simple Responsive Menu' is a plugin that can help convert a Wordpress website from one format to another. For example, from a personal computer to a mobile device or tablet. That helps the audience browse the website comfortably without having all the contents messed up. This is a plugin I would probably consider.

Planning: Layout
Planning:Layout
After looking at some themes that can be used on Wordpress, I have figured out the kind of theme I want to go for. The theme also helps me choose the kind of layout I am after. The name of theme on Wordpress is called 'Ward'.
The reason why I like this theme is because of the layout and colours that have been used. The layout is very simple, straight forward and bold. The menu is also simple, there isn't unnecessary things floating around the menu. The best thing that I really like is the four widgets where I can place a picture and paste the URL and it will navigate the reader to the page. For example; I will place a picture of someone's body and the word 'body' will be right under the image. If the audience are interested in this they would click it which would navigate them to the next page that relates to body with many different sub-menus that relates to body; example: 'fragrance'.

Planning: WireFrame
Planning:Wireframe
The wire frame will also be attached to the proposal with the flow chart as well. The wire frame gives a demonstration how my website would look like, its all about the layout. I have researched the layout recently and came up with my own homepage layout.
One the top there is a menu that navigate the audience to a page they chose. For example, 'Social Network' will have a plugin that will indicate the reader to the 'Twitter' page. There will be a search bar, the logo, two links which are either an image or slideshow. As I mentioned before, I might be applying few changes to the concept of my website therefore the changes will be applied to the layout too.
